Mom often shared her favorite Charleston story:
When she was about 6 years old, living on the farm in Oklahoma, her folks often hosted the local barn dances. The “older girls” (aka teenagers) couldn’t Charleston, but SHE could. I can just picture Mom on the makeshift dance floor, teaching and dancing with the boys while those “older girls” could only stand by and watch. They just couldn’t master the fast, crazy footwork. The boys weren’t must better, but they weren’t embarrassed at their clumsy attempts.
In her 70’s Mom would dazzle her grandkids with the Charleston! I’m not certain any of them could ever keep up with her, I know I never could!
Marc grew up listening to Grandma’s and Poppy’s stories about the 1920’s, when the “Flappers” emerged and changed fashion, slang, and the dance floor forever!
And now, a century later…Grandma and Poppy would be proud of Marc’s drawings and paintings of the “Flappers”.
